Since then, twenty-five thousand Naira (N25,000) each have been awarded to four (4) lucky applicants each year after a careful selection process to determine winners from a pool of candidates who applied. In 2010, no awards were made as no entries were received. Therefore, the final $1000 check was used for the 2013 scholarship awards.
In 2014, our association will fund the scholarship program directly for the very first time out of proceeds from our annual fundraisers towards education in the last two years. Additionally, in consideration of the various recommendations, the Executive Committee recently voted to increase the total annual scholarship amount to $2,000 and also increase the number of beneficiaries to six (6). With this increase, the amount awarded to each winner will increase to fifty thousand Naira (N50,000) to meet the rising cost of tuition in institutions of higher learning in Nigeria.
Goals:
The Committee on Scholarship Program (otherwise referred to as Scholarship Committee) was first established by the Executive Committee on January 27, 2012. Its main responsibility is to plan and execute the association’s scholarship program effectively as well as make recommendations for improvement.
